A feature of Sweet Iron metal is that as it oxidizes a sweet taste is produced. Sweet Iron also gives a warmer feel in the mouth and the added copper in this bit increases the effect. The copper players help relax the horse and lessens the effect of the link on the tongue.  This is preferred by some horses as it encourages salvation and acceptance of the bit.
