Classic Running Martingale featuring Quality English Leather with stainless steel fittings.

This is a very popular rider aid, used to help prevent the horse from raising its head too high.

It consists of a neck strap and a body strap; which is attached to the girth and passes between the horses front legs before dividing into two pieces. At the end of each of these straps is a small metal ring through which the reins pass. When the horse carries its head in the correct position no pressure is felt. However, should the horse raise its head the martingale will restrict the movement of the reins, which in turn causes the bit to bear down on the bars of the horses mouth. The Martingale should be fitted so that the rings are in line with the withers to prevent it putting any pressure on the reins when the horses head is held in the correct position.

Should be used with rubber rein stops, which are located on the rein between the bit & the Martingale ring.

Leather should been cleaned and conditioned regularly to keep it supple and to prolong its life. Here are some useful tips on how to maintain your bridlework:-

i) Always apply leather conditioner several times before using new tack, this will soften and protect the leather before use.

ii) Remove sweat and grime everytime the bridlework is used, using a slightly damp sponge or cloth.

iii) Re-apply leather conditioner as necessary, climate and use effect this, like watering a plant too much is as bad as too little!

iv) Depending how often you ride, you will need to dismantle your bridle completely for a thorough cleaning periodically. This will involve using leather cleaner (not saddle soap) and the re-application of conditioner.

v) Check the stitching and billets regularly, paying particular attention to where the bit is attached to the bridle at the reins and the cheek pieces, any wear should be repaired, or replaced by a reputable saddler immediately.

What our customers say

Beautiful quality leather. The noseband is available in a plain, classic style to match my existing Dever bridle, so I can swap nosebands for jumping or showing. It is great to be able to buy a spare Grackle pad too - especially as good quality English leatherwork will last for years and years and it is the pad which will wear down first. Very quick delivery and a fair price for tack of this quality.

Excellent quality bridle, just what I wanted (a plain bridle with an extra deep cavesson noseband for hunter showing classes). The bridle arrived within two days, free postage, and with a free bridle hook for the tack room, which was a lovely gesture. Very happy with my purchase.
